Cellogy - A Cello Ensemble Collective
As a child, I loved the duos my parents played together. I started playing the cello not because both of them were cellists, but because they played the cello together. I fell in love with the sound of the cello, and not just one cello - the more the better. Once I learned how to play, my parents could finally take me along to Cellobration, a cello celebration in South Florida. There, cello teachers, amateurs, and professionals would all come together for a single epic day of only cello playing: technique workshops and group rehearsals in the morning, and one massive concert with upwards of 100 cellists playing together in the afternoon. It was for me the pinnacle of cello-awesomeness... just cellos all across the stage, some playing low and some high, all with that particular mellow cello sound that I loved so much.
Since then my fascination for all things cello has never diminished, and my compositions and arrangements are all for multiple cellists playing together. With this project, I aim to show what I love about the sound of the cello to every audience I play for.
The project originates with my own compositions for several cellos combined with my desire to make music with lots of different musicians, focusing on other cellists. The first step was taken together with Frederico Malverde and Eurico Ferreira-Mathias, who have brought my compositions to life with me on stage. Their love for and expertise on the cello as well as their ideas and arrangements supported the impulse for me to start this journey.
Since then, my “trio” has grown to a proper collective - spread across Europe and North America! I have created ensembles with local cellists for performances in Germany, Canada, and the USA, and will continue to grow our network of like-minded cellists.
